Kim Heyst is a Copenhagen based illustrator and painter, working with surrealism, spontaneity and abstraction. He draws inspiration from horror and sci-fi fiction, films, music and comics. While some pieces are direct illustrations of specific stories, other pieces are subconscious interpretations of otherworldly fictional input.
Kim Heyst has illustrated in various genres and formats. In 2018, he produced the vinyl covers for Sounds Like Roskilde, a special edition record made by Roskilde Festival, the biggest festival in Scandinavia. During 2019, he exhibited his artwork at the venue Basement in Copenhagen, gathering people for a 2-day art exhibition with concerts by local bands and DJs. In line with his passion for sci-fi, he illustrated the first ever Danish translation of ‘Roadside Picnic’ by Arkadij and Boris Strugatskij, published by the small press Forlaget Kosmos.
He continues to combine his love for art and literature, exhibiting his work at libraries around Denmark. As part of an exhibition at Hjørring Bibliotek, he did a live drawing session, allowing visitors to follow his creative process in real time.
